Choosing a bathroom mirror

An LED mirror is both a light source and a piece of electrical equipment, so it needs to be planned before the tiler and electrician finish.

Lighting types

• Front-lit — light falls on your face, the best choice for shaving and make-up
• Backlit — a halo glow behind the glass, more atmospheric than functional
• Front and back combined — usable light plus the ambient effect

Features worth having

• Adjustable colour temperature — warm light for the evening, cool daylight for detail
• Demister pad — keeps a section clear after a hot shower
• Touch or sensor switching — no wall switch required
• Shaving cabinets — mirror and storage in the same footprint

Electrical planning

Hardwired mirrors must be connected by a licensed electrician, and the cable needs to be roughed in before the wall is sheeted and tiled. Bathrooms also have zone rules that govern where electrical fittings can sit relative to the bath and shower. Decide on your mirror early — retrofitting power behind finished tiles is expensive.

Sizing

As a general rule, match the mirror to the vanity width or go slightly narrower. Mirrors wider than the vanity tend to look unbalanced unless the wall is very wide.

We deliver to Sydney suburbs only. Mirrors are fragile and are packed accordingly — please inspect on delivery. Collection from our Hornsby showroom is also available.
