Laundry renovations in Thornleigh.
In a three-bedroom house the laundry is usually a corridor with a trough in it. Getting a working room out of two square metres is a joinery problem, and it has a right answer.

Small laundries
Two square metres, properly used.
Thornleigh has the highest share of three-bedroom homes in the district at 38.8%. The laundries in those houses are genuinely small, and almost everything that improves them is decided by layout rather than by finishes.
Stack, and reclaim the wall
Two machines side by side eat 1,300mm of a room that has 2,000. Stacked, you get a whole wall back.
A shallow trough, not a deep one
A 400mm deep tub still soaks a school shirt and leaves you room to walk past. Depth is what you cannot spare here.
Fold-down bench
A hinged surface that drops flat against the wall. In a corridor laundry a fixed bench is simply an obstruction.
Sliding or bifold door
A hinged door swinging into two square metres removes most of the usable floor whenever it is open.

Townhouse and villa laundries.
462 townhouses and villas plus 237 apartments. In these the laundry is usually smaller again than in the houses, and frequently tucked under a staircase where the ceiling slopes.
Under the stairs, usually
Townhouse laundries here are carved from leftover circulation space. Sloping ceilings are the constraint nobody mentions.
Measure the height, not just the width
A stacked pair needs about 1,800mm clear. Under a staircase that is often the number that fails.
Consent before demolition
Strata-titled townhouses need owners corporation approval for wet area work, driveway and front door notwithstanding.

Thornleigh questions
Getting a room out of a corridor.
What is the minimum size for a usable laundry?
With stacked machines you can get a genuinely functional laundry into roughly 900mm of wall and about a metre of clear floor in front of it. Side by side you need closer to 1,400mm of wall, which is what pushes most small laundries into feeling like corridors.
Will my machines stack?
Most front loaders will with the manufacturer's stacking kit. Top loaders will not. Check the total stacked height as well as the width — in a townhouse under a staircase, height is usually the number that fails rather than width. Around 1,800mm clear is what a stacked pair typically needs.
Is a deep trough worth it in a small room?
Usually not. A 400mm tub still lets you soak and hand-wash, and the extra 100mm of depth on a full-size trough is floor space you cannot spare in a two square metre room. This is one of the few places where the smaller fitting is genuinely the better choice.
Where does folding happen?
On a hinged fold-down bench, or on a pull-out board over the trough. A fixed benchtop in a corridor laundry becomes an obstruction you edge past. Something that drops flat against the wall when not in use is the right answer at this size.
How long does it take?
One to two weeks on site, with waterproofing cure time setting the minimum. Being four minutes from our Hornsby showroom means site visits, deliveries and any follow-up are straightforward, which matters more on a short job than a long one.
Width, depth and height.
Three numbers and we can tell you whether the machines stack and what else will fit.
