Can the laundry double as a mudroom?
On a Turramurra house it usually should. If the room sits between the garden or garage and the rest of the house, adding a bench to sit on, hooks at reachable height and a hard-wearing floor turns it into the room the household actually uses. It costs very little more than a laundry alone.
What floor holds up best?
A slip-rated porcelain tile with a floor waste. Timber-look vinyl looks warmer and does not cope with water tracked in from a garden, wet dogs or a machine that overflows. In a room that gets wet from both directions the tile is the honest choice.
Is a designer basin worth it in a laundry?
Rarely, if the room opens onto a garden. A deep trough takes boots, buckets, paint trays and a dog; a shallow rectangular basin takes none of those. We would rather put the money into a proper tub and better storage and leave the styling to the tapware.
Can you add a door straight to the garden?
Sometimes, and it is a genuinely useful change on these blocks. A new external doorway alters an elevation, so it needs structural work and may need approval if the property is heritage-affected. We check the Ku-ring-gai mapping before designing it in.
How long does a laundry take?
One to two weeks on site typically, a little longer where plumbing is relocated or a new opening is formed. Waterproofing cure time sets the minimum. Because it is short, it often makes sense to run it alongside a bathroom rather than as a standalone visit.
